Service Description

Exhibition Dates: 2024-07-27 to 2024-09-11 Venue: Sotheby's Maison, Hong Kong Address: LANDMARK CHATER, 8 Connaught Rd Central, Central, Hong Kong Introduction: Sotheby's Maison, Hong Kong, is proud to present two concurrent inaugural exhibitions that offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore vastly different yet equally captivating worlds of art and history. Ice: Two Masterworks on Loan from The Long Museum Enshrouded in a frozen landscape of atmospheric beauty, "Ice" brings together an exquisite piece of Song Dynasty Ru ware and Gerhard Richter's mesmerizing Eisberg. This exhibition creates an aesthetic and thematic dialogue between these two masterpieces, inviting visitors to journey through time and geography. The glowing blue-green glaze and intricate 'ice crackle' of the Ru ware, an emblem of Chinese philosophy and aesthetics, contrast with the ethereal, dreamlike quality of Richter's depiction of a frozen seascape. This encounter forms a symphony of luminous blue and crackled grey, highlighting the profound connections between ancient craftsmanship and modern artistry. Bodhi: Masterpieces of Monumental Buddhist Art "Bodhi" showcases a diverse collection of exceptional Buddhist sculptures, spanning from ancient Gandhara to the glorious Ming court. These lifelike sculptures of Buddha and bodhisattvas have profoundly influenced the lives of millions of followers for over two millennia, serving as powerful objects to visualize deities and support spiritual journeys towards enlightenment. The exhibition provides a comprehensive view of the artistic development of Buddhism, featuring works crafted from materials such as clay, stone, wood, and bronze. Visitors will gain a glimpse into an ethereal and eternal world beyond our transient existence, reflecting the devotion and craftsmanship of countless generations. These exhibitions offer a rare opportunity to experience the sublime beauty and profound significance of art that transcends time and culture. Visitors are encouraged to explore both "Ice" and "Bodhi," each promising a unique and enriching journey through history and artistry.
